You’re a Fake Baby!!!!!!

What’s good America?  I’m back to expose yet another fraud, snake charmer, charlatan someone who I allowed to get close to my circle and hurt people who I care about.

Who? You ask!

El Hafiz!! Is who!

Yeah my good friend Mr. #Tricky Hip (wait on this…..tune in…you’re not gonna wanna miss it!).

Design my homie @lordlike created for El Hafiz

Those of you who follow my blog or the #soapboxchronicles may have noticed that El Hafiz has been missing from the show for a few weeks.

To tell you the truth; he wasn’t bringing the type of energy that Tracy Renee Jones & myself needed to make a successful three-man show.  So I decided to cut my losses and let El Hafiz go a whole 3 weeks before this fuckery began.

No, I am not a Mrs. Cleo psychic extraordinaire; something about him just wasn’t quite RIGHT. But me being who I am, I offered to embrace ya boy and open up some opportunities for him through the show and networking with my #theillpen tribe.

El Hafiz has been pulling the wool over everyone’s eyes.

Without getting into the whole story here (tune into this weeks edition of the Soapbox Chronicles for exclusive interviews with the key players) it seems that El Hafiz wasn’t forthright with his background.

But wait there’s more. (Snicker)

It’s funny how he used to always call me Mike Lowery (Will Smith’s character from Bad Boys I, II) and I feel like an ass for vouching for him (sorry America) but I was fooled too. His fuckery has caused stress to good friend of mine @thekiaXperience. You can checkout her video blog here as she tells the whole story of how her name was caught up in this mess.

I am in the business of promoting goodness and black power trips to the top. I smoke my bud, say my prayers, and eat my vitamins. I have to quell the,“That’s your boy“ (#tracyreneejones) comments. He never did anything wrong to me but he involved my people so me being “The voice of the people” I had to speak out and let my people know what is what.

So let me be clear

We here at the Soapbox Chronicles do not condone or agree with El Hafiz’s actions or comments. We don’t play those games on this side of town, and nor do we engage in this type of fuckery. We want to assure our fans that we will continue to bring you the real and the raw. With no additives and preservatives; please forgive us for breaking away from this week’s Slave Trade series. Instead, we’re gonna take this time to address why some black people want to shine but refuse to do the work necessary to bring their own authentic light.

But I digress,

That’s all for now America.

Young M. Clayton

The Streets is Watching!!!!!

Happy New Year America! It feels great to be alive, and have the opportunity to continue to bless you guys with a great & informative blog. It’s a new year. New projects on deck, and even opportunities for me to learn & experience new things. So from me to you I want to say thank you for letting me into your world.

Chucks list of New Years particulars.

Aight now *pulls of medical gloves*

I have something that I wanted to discuss a week ago, but I wanted to wait for the smoke clear to gather some more facts.

What the Fuck is Wrong with Gilbert Arenas?

If you have slept under a rock, or you don’t have a T.V in your home (because I know some people who don’t) you probably haven’t heard that the NBA has indefinitely suspended Washington Wizards Guard Gilbert Arenas for violating its gun policy. You can check the full story here:

Now before I give @gilbertarenas (who’s twitter page is suspended) the business (wait on it…) let me  say that I actually like the guy. He is a talented athlete and I was glad to see him finally start to get back to all-star status in the league. To become the (Hibachi) we all know and love. So when I heard the news that he had guns in his locker room I was shocked. I mean did we not learn anything from Plaxico Burgess? It just baffles me how the lack of good judgment escapes our black athletes.I can understand what his reason are for not having guns in his home. But there were other options that he could have taken to make sure that his children didn’t have access to his guns. Arenas originally said he brought four guns to the Verizon Center because he wanted them out of his house after his daughter was born. Ok! I feel him on that but, dude, that’s why they invented safes with locks on them (Home Depot?).

Why would you bring them to your locker? I know D.C is rough but damn, son! If you felt like you needed protection why not hire security to hold you down (@bodyguardbeats). Did Shaq have you that shook that you need to keep 4 guns in your locker? I’m just saying, if you needed help I could have called Day-Day & Craig, (or da cousins..) and they could have held you down. But I digress! I’m not judging the brother because I am a parent and I understand that your children’s safety is a priority, but you should never jeopardize your job and how you make your living.

The NBA is not the hood nor the park. I don’t care if the guns weren’t loaded; there is no place for that in any sport. You had to know that there was going to be a severe punishment handed down by David Stern. And that is the least of his worries, even though his guns were legally registered in VA, he violated the law by carrying those same guns over state lines into D.C (where they are now considered unregistered). Gilbert claimed that he did not know that he had to have them registered and I believe him, but ignorance of the law is no excuse for you to break the law (damn I just sounded like a DA.) the sad fact is that most people who carry guns don’t even know the their own state’s gun laws. So Gilbert may be facing criminal charges as well. This not the first time he has had an incident with guns. Arenas has been suspended once before because of a gun-related matter. He sat out Washington’s season opener in 2004 because he failed to keep up proper registration of a handgun while living in California in 2003 and playing for the Golden State Warriors.

My dad always told me as a child that “The lessons that you learn the most in life, are the one’s that you pay for” (thanks, Dad!) and I hate to say it but this will cost Gilbert. As it stands with each game he misses, Arenas, who turned 28 on Wednesday, will lose about $147,200 of the $16.2 million he will earn this season in the second of a six-year, $111 million contract. As of Wednesday he had $9,429,505.41 remaining for this season. And he has no one to blame but himself. Keeping it real has forced David Stern’s hand by making gestures like this.

C’mon son you making gun gestures in a pre-game warm up during the Sixer’s game. What did you think would happen?

David Stern says:

“Although it is clear that the actions of Mr. Arenas will ultimately result in a substantial suspension, and perhaps worse, his ongoing conduct has led me to conclude that he is not currently fit to take the court in an NBA game,” Stern said. “Accordingly, I am suspending Mr. Arenas indefinitely, without pay, effective immediately pending the completion of the investigation by the NBA.

I hope Gilbert can learn from his mistakes, and make better decisions in the future. He has a lot to overcome and I am rooting for him, because he is actually a dude who made a poor choice.(Let he who is without fault, throw the first stone…or something like that..)

Now the thing that has gotten me tight is some of the crazy comments that I have heard from people lately about this situation. I have heard that “There is nothing wrong for him bringing guns to the locker room”, (ignorant) and “If you can bring a gun to the park, then you should be alright to bring them to the stadium” (ignorant-er).

But this is the comment that had me tight “ Basketball is a game for the hood & the park, it’s a hood sport” (ignorant-est).

WTF is that about? I played basketball in High School, College, Semi-Pro tournaments, and even had a chance to go over seas before I tore ligaments in my ankle. I love basketball, and yes I’m from the hood. I never thought that bringing guns to the park was ever cool. Do you know how many people get killed in parks over foolish shit? I’ve never seen a gun improve a jump shot. There is way to much violence out here and it’s bad enough that in the black community places more value on sports than on education. Where you ask young kids who they inspire to be like and you hear, Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, & Dwayne Wade. We all know kids mimic what they see & hear on TV. We all know Jay-Z said in the song where I’m from “I’m from where they crossover & clap boards, lost Jehovah in place or Rap Lords” or like Biggie Said “ You either got a wicked jump shot or you selling crack rock” There is already the perception out there that NBA is a league of thugs & hoodlums. This incident doesn’t help that.

So now, as Black people, we restrict our aspirations for better financial opportunities and freedom to sports and music as an escape vehicle from the hood. AND we associate the same type of violence pledging the inner city environment WITH the very activity they are using to escape from the violence!

Think about that for a moment.

I suggest “black athletes” work with life coaches to help them make decisions with their newfound money and fame. Someone needs to teach these young people better decision-making skills to keep the out of the negative limelight and out of jail. Its 2010 people wake up, we so have to do better.

Until next time America,

Young M. Clayton

Rappers, R&B Singers, Pedophile’s & the fans who love them!!!! (yeah you)

It’s been so much going on lately that I can’t even keep up. You might have noticed I been missing from my virtual hang out spots. Nah, I been around, but hadn’t been saying much. Sometimes I just prefer to watch…the Tweetstream (get your mind out the gutter). There are so many conversations going on at one time, it’s really an amazing place. I urge you to get up on Twitter if you haven’t already and be sure to peep me (Young M. Clayton) and my partner in crime (@tracyreneejones) when you get a chance. She’s working on a memoir book and you won’t want to miss the ANYTHING she has to say. Usually everyone is randomly tweeting but she stopped me in my tracks when I saw this:

  • (Tracy) Yall muthafukas listen closely to this one…Im digging in the bag..
  • (Tracy) I was 12 years old, on my way home from the neighborhood. was getting dark out. My Dad’s friend pulls up and offers me a ride. Almost got in
  • (Tracy) but something stopped me. I wanted to walk home and see my friends around the way. I promised that I would go straight home. Only 3 blocks.
  • (Tracy) He asked if I remembered him, of course, he came on the holidays and used to visit with my Dad, I would sit on his lap. He taught me to draw
  • (Tracy) When I hesitated from getting in his van, he asked if I was hungary. I said no, wondered why he would ask that.
  • (Tracy) Then he asked if he could take me somewhere to get something to eat. I wasn’t hungary and said no. seemed odd.
  • (Tracy) He then said we could get something to eat and hang out. He said we could go for a ride. Asked if I suc’d dick…he said “I’ll pay you!
  • (Tracy) I blinked at him cuz I didn’t understand the question, didn’t know what ‘suc’d dik’ was…I just felt funny that he asked me that
  • (Tracy) Then when it finally struck me what he asked, I turned red with embarrassment, then rage…I dug deep….and spit dead in his face n ran
  • (Tracy) Had nightmares, felt disgusting, always talk of someone doing something to me, even from my Dad’s best bud.
  • (Tracy) I never told my father b/c he would have killed that man and been in jail. I held that to myself. So, no…what is there to teach.
  • @**** but yet we debate R. Kelly REALLY being a bad guy..when some1 just as similar murdered that little girl (used her body just b/cause)
  • (Tracy) We can control and we can also be stringent when these things happen. All these young girls getting killed lately. Oh, well?!
  • @******* U are a woman, u already know…people claim your body, comments, touches, abuses, who do u run from? it’s everywhere!
  • RT @*******: @TracyReneeJones gd questions, b/c it’s not ‘stranger danger’.. most of the times, it’s sum1 well-known 2 the family
  • (Tracy) How does one avoid those that eat at their tables? How do u avoid your own family. U want to feel like it’s something u can control
  • (Tracy) And who do u tell young girls to fear? The uncle? The step Dad? The pastor? The older cousins? The babysitters older child? Who? How?

Did you see what she said right there? “we debate R.Kelly REALLY being a bad guy ..when someone  just as similar murdered that little girl (used her body just b/cause)”

R. Kelly’s new album has just been released. With all of the recent violence against children lately it makes me cringe to see the amount of promotion by fans and industry people of this pedophile. Maybe you didn’t see the video ( I did and it still bothers me) and until you do I urge you to not blindly jump to this man’s defense. I think it was clear to ANYONE that watched that video that Mr. Kelly has a bad habit….he likes young girls. What’s worse is that although people talked about it. NO ONE got angry about it. Quiet as it’s kept, that rumor is nothing new about your favorite R&B crooner. We can’t at one point care about Shaniya Davis and then disregard another child who is being abused by an adult. How do you determine the value of a child’s life?

The more interesting thing here was that people were defending R.Kelly’s actions instead blaming the little girl for being ‘fast’. I want you to ask yourself how does a little girl become ‘fast’? Does she naturally decide she wants to have sex and then finds a GROWN ASS MAN to give her body too? Explain that to me. Exploited sexual behavior by young girls is taught…ask yourself by whom and get back to me. When teens decide to start experimenting with ANYTHING (drugs, sex, alcohol) it’s almost always with their peers. Who goes to find an adult to sneak off with and do things you aren’t supposed to? Well, you can always ask Robert, he’s on Twitter (@KellZodiac)..tell him Young M Clayton sent you.

Tracy raised some very good points in her debate. You can’t assume it’s going to be a stranger. You can’t assume your child is too young to be able to communicate their privacy. YOU DAMN SURE CAN’T SHIFT THE BLAME TO THE CHILD!! We are losing our young people because we have become complacent. If it doesn’t involve instant gratification or negativity then we don’t care about it. If I ask you to take that extra step, involve yourself a little more, or do something uncomfortable some of you would fight me tooth and nail. You as a parent need to be more considerate of the people your child spends time with. Molestation does damage that takes years to be repaired often to parts of a person that you or I can’t see. What’s even worse than this is that it seems Kell’s has a companion in the music business. You may or may not have known this but Pleasure P has also been accused of child molestation. If you want to know more about this story you can check it out on Nicole Bitchie’s website. At first I thought it was just a rumor but now I am not too sure. My initial reaction is a prime example of how we as adults don’t want to believe shit stinks. We can be so quick to turn a blind eye and deny things that we don’t want to deal with. Because as you know, ignoring a problem doesn’t mean it goes away. Yo check Nicole’s blog and come back and tell me what’s really good.

And to all the men out there that think it’s okay to touch a young girl or to have sex with a minor just make sure you don’t let me hear about it. If you stare and lust at those teenage girls your no better off. If you really want a female, how about you do some work on you so that you can play with grown up girls who do grown up things. Any man who will abuse a minor for sexual gratification is not worth breathing; especially one that uses his celebrity, influence and wealth as protection (I see you Roman Polanski) . If you turn a blind eye to anyone abusing minors than you are no better than they are. I sleep well at night…Do you!?

On that note like my home girl @Ms_AJC would say, “That is all”

Until next time America

Sleeper Cell

“Clayton, you are sooo crazy!”

No, I’m actually quite sane and this is just a phrase that’s worked its way into everyday conversation. I don’t feel no type of way by having someone call me crazy…because it’s only a joke or rather the stigma of mental illness is a joke. Far too many people take this topic lightly and I believe it’s time for us to stop that. What happens when people don’t get the help that they need? What happens when a cry out for help goes unanswered?

Get your notebooks out for this one…

John Allen Muhammad

How many people out there know that John Allen Muhammad (the DC Sniper) attorney’s submitted an appeal  to the U.S. Supreme Court (prior to his execution) stating that he had extensive medical issues?  What’s even worse is that jurors were never allowed to hear Muhammad had brain damage, brain dysfunction and neurological deficits, as well as psychotic and delusional behavior before he was convicted. I wonder why this was kept a secret? I would have wanted to know that about him BEFORE his death. Who knew about that BEFORE his killing spree? Further evidence submitted to the courts included MRI brain scans, which confirmed Muhammad had three congenital malformations of the brain, two of which are found with greater frequency in people with schizophrenia.

Muhammad was not the only serial killer with these type of mental issues. You can also add Bobby Joe Long, David Berkowitz, Kenneth Bianchi, John Gacy, and serial killer Carl Panzram, who even realized that his behavior was unique and singular compared to the behavior of his immediate law-abiding, normal family members. Does this mean that the ‘crazy’ people even realized they were crazy?

While researching this article I found out that after the brains of 70 notorious serial killers were examined, it showed that all 70 had some frontal lobe damage which would have been caused as children.  Now to understand why this is important you need to understand what this part of the brain is responsible for. The frontal lobe located in the most anterior part of the brains hemispheres, and has been concluded by scientists to act as your conscience.  It’s essential functions are Self-control, planning, judgment, the balance of individual verses social needs, and many other essential functions underlying effective social intercourse are mediated by the frontal structures of the brain. Just think of it as the part of your brain that makes you ‘play nice with others’, it’s the part of our brain that allows us to be conditioned to live withing our society.

Let me break it down further for you...(pull out notebooks now)

The hypothalamus regulates the hormonal system and emotions. The “higher” brain has limited control over the hypothalamus. Because of the physical closeness of sexual and aggressive centers within the hypothalamus, sexual instinct and violence become connected for lust murderers. The hypothalamus may be damaged through malnutrition or injury.

limbric brain

The limbic brain is the part of the brain associated with emotion and motivation. When the limbic brain is damaged, the individual loses control over primary emotions such as fear and rage. The predatory gaze of the psychopath, according to Meloy, lacks emotions, and is as cold as a reptile’s blank stare. Reptiles are missing the limbic part of their brain, where memories, emotions, socializing, and parental instincts reside. In other words, serial killers are aptly described as “cold-blooded,” just like a reptile.

temporal lobe

The temporal lobe is highly susceptible to injury, located where the skull bone is thinnest. Blunt injuries, including falling on a hard surface, can easily damage this section of the brain, creating lesions, which cause forms of amnesia and epileptic seizures. Damage to the temporal lobe can result in hair-trigger violent reactions and increased aggressive responses. As a child, Ken Bianchi fell off of a jungle gym, and landed on the back of his head. He soon began to have epileptic seizures.

Head injuries are not uncommon, especially when dealing with an adolescent. How many times have you observed children at play and noticed the one that likes to climb (and eventually bust their azz). I can readily recall a few instances where I was running about my little boy life looking for adventure and cracked my skull in play or by pure accident. I’m not a killer (<==disclaimer==>) or am I?

I got a friend, you got a friend, we all have a friend that USED to act fine…until that spill off that motorcycle or that accident at work. Hell, I even know a dude that was hit hard during football and turned into a different person once those bandages came off. It’s almost like he died that day on the field because I have NO IDEA who the guy  was that took over his body and behavior. I couldn’t get to know him either since his erratic violent temper and lack of effort caused him to be kicked out of school not too far after his return from recovering from his injury. Strange ending for a guy who was previously one of the nicest, most normal, easy-going dudes you could meet, on the honor society and Dean’s list.

You won’t know if a person is capable of random acts of violence until they do them. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people slipping through the cracks. Don’t let the media distract you on this one by having you believe these murderers (and the hundreds of thousands that now sit on death row in thousands of prisons across the country) are calculating, evil wrong doers that took innocent lives.

As with anything else, there is (almost) always an underlying reason for people’s ill behavior. The news will tell you to keep an eye out for terrorist activity. I’m telling you to keep an eye out for those around you that are suffering in the kind of pain that you or I can’t see. I’m asking you to put on your 3rd eye shades and identify those in your personal life that may be in need of an ear. Do you know someone suffering a mental illness? Do you ridicule them or do you pay attention and try to empathize with what they are feeling? Do you know of any mental health resources that you could pass along on Twitter? Even a kind word of encouragement to get help a fellow human get by might mean the world to a person. It would mean even more to the lives that could be saved if and when that dormant ‘sleeper’ cells wakes up. And speaking of saving a life, I also wonder at what point does a criminal lose their “human rights”. I say America is not as ‘civilized’ as you may think. Check out part two of this post over at, she’s holding court in her crib right now. If we rush, we’ll get there right in time. Are you with me?

I know some of you must think that I stay in a perpetual angry mode. (I DO!) But I don’t. As a matter of fact, me and @tracyreneejones were trading who we thought were hot Twitter users when we got into the debate over whose list was hotter. (Mine!) I have some fabulous females that I follow; she says she has some great guys that she follows. Without a doubt I know I got me some dime pieces because I fucks with nothing less. So for the very first time in history, I present to you a double post; part two of which can be found at  Don’t feel tight if your name doesn’t appear here because this is only the beginning. @Danamo: (Danyel Smith)- Brooklyn, NY– this next woman’s name is synonymous with “Vibe Magazine”, one of the Best hip-Hop publications of the 90’s & beyond. Danyel Smith is straight out of Oakland, CA; this journalist and author is truly Hip-Hop in every since of the word. Young, black, and educated, she has set the bar in establishing Hip-Hop as a culture. Writer Danyel Smith began writing about hip-hop music for magazines and newspapers in the late 1980s and early 1990s, just as the genre was beginning to take over mainstream music. Her writing career actually followed the trajectory of hip-hop; she went from writing record and concert reviews for San Francisco-Bay Area publications to moving to New York to take editorial positions at Billboard and the New York Times. As a fellow writer/journalist I really respect and admire her work in accurately & fairly depicting the sometimes-gritty world of Hip-Hop. Both cool and informative, she loves sharing great info and she always tweets me back which is why I really respect her as a person. If you want the definition of beauty & brains follow her on twitter and see what I’m talking about

@Dreamhampton: Her Wiki page says that she’s a Hip Hop journalist but she is so much more. Her byline has been a part of my life since as far back as I can remember. Can you say the “The Source Magazine”? Always coming through as genuine and authentic; it was a blessing to have come across a writer talking about the music that I fell in love with who was a female but broke it down just as good (or better) than any dude. Her writing has appeared in The Village Voice, Spin, The Detroit News, Harper’s Bazaar, Essence, Parenting and other magazines. In addition, her essays and articles have appeared in several anthologies, including Rock She Wrote, The Vibe History of Hip-Hop and And It Don’t Stop: The Best American Hip-Hop Journalism of the Last 25 Years. Film production and co-authoring the Black Book with Jay-Z only solidifies her place in my heart and mind. Hampton’s short film I Am Ali was an official entry in the 2002 Sundance Film Festival and won the Jury Award at Vanity Fair’s Newport Beach Film Festival[2]. The former New York University film student was an associate producer and interviewer for VH1’s Emmy Award-winning Behind The Music: The Notorious B.I.G..  @Vanessaveasley – (Vanessa Veasley) Philly via LA. Fellas do me a favor close your eyes and think about the infamous “Lil Kim” poster that you had on your wall in college. You got that image in your head? Now imagine that body with a even prettier face, and most of all she is uber intelligent. Now open your eyes and let me introduce you to Vanessa Veasley. I have never seen anyone work in any industry where all they (media) care about is you having a big but, nice breast, and a smile with such intelligence and grace. She works hard at letting people know that she is an educated beauty (BA. In public Relations) and she does not let you forget that she is set on becoming the next (sexier) Oprah. You probably have seen her on several videos & magazine covers such as: Showcase and SHOW Black Lingerie magazines, Lowrider Girls SMOOTH Girl, XXL, Urban Ink, Hip-Hop Connection (a UK magazine), KING, Modified, SMOOTH and Hawaiian Tropic competitions. Videos: Kanye West “Amazing”, Willie Northpole feat. Bobby Valentino #1 Side Chick, Lil Wayne “Lollipop” and several other videos. The Blueprint 3.1!!!!!

Aight, now that you are firmly aware that the “thug” persona is dead and stinking by the side of the road your probably asking yourself, “Now what do I do?”. As usual, I got you…cause like B.I.G. said:
"The Notorious Biggie Smalls"

“I been in this game for years, it made me a animal
It’s rules to this shit, I wrote me a manual
A step by step booklet for you to get
your game on track, not your wig pushed back”

–The Notorious Biggie Smalls/ Ten Crack commandments

These ain’t the 10 Crack Commandments, instead, they are the 10 Rules of Upward Mobility. Why? Because everything needs to change, including the words you use to communicate, how you make moves and your perception of your life. I bet you didn’t know that the rules of the streets apply in business. Do you see your life extending no further than the corner of your block or the city limits of your town or do you want more than your friends and family have ever been able to accomplish? If so…follow me and these rules and let me know how it works out for you. For all it’s worth. I just got hit in the head with some bullshit and will be working this plan the same as you.

The first is the most obvious which is why it’s often overlooked:

ProtectProtect Your Neck Ya Neck

“If I ain’t in the street than why I gotta worry about protection?” Because you still have to protect yourself. The enemy isn’t the stick up kids on the block late at night in search of your jewels. That was easy. Now you gotta protect yourself from having bad credit. Most of the jobs worth having (well paying) require a credit check or finger print check with the local and federal police. You gotta protect your fingerprints for those high level jobs because you want to have as many opportunities available to you as you can. Felons can’t work with money. Felons can’t get a security license or register a fire arm. Bad credit can’t get an apartment nor a credit card nor certain jobs that pertain to money. If you haven’t been arrested, I suggest you continue to be law-abiding citizen and stay away from people, places and things that may get you caught up in their bullshit. No HR person is going to listen (and believe) your story about how you REALLY had nothing to do with those charges you listed on your application…it was your cousin Pookie and them and you were just standing nearby when the cops showed up. Don’t do it to yourself. Your connections are old jobs, old bosses or casual friends that you have come across. They may be able to hook you up with a job or a name or a number. It’s called networking. The best way to go about this is to keep in touch causally. Don’t just call when you need something. And the fastest way to burn out a connection is the same as it’s always been. Hook your connect up with someone whose irresponsible or reckless and your connect won’t want to fuck with you. So with that being said, only use your connects to hook up friends if the friends are worth your reputation. Be proactive about your resources: clean finger prints, good credit, your connections.
Know Your Streets

Corner of Lenox ave & Malcom X blvd

I bet you know where they sell the best Kush. I bet you know the fastest route to your Mommas’ house. In Geometry 101 we all learned that the fastest way from point A to point B is a straight line (you DID pass Geometry, didn’t you?). All this means is that you can’t make moves if you don’t know where you are going? By this I mean…what is it that you are trying to do? If you don’t know then you need to identify what you want to be when you grow up. Or at the very least, figure out what you DON’T want to do and then work backwards. Find out what you need to do in order to do what you desire. No one is successful by accident. Once you identify which direction you want to go in now all is left is ‘the how’? Ask people who are doing what you want to do about how they got there. Go on….ask them how they did it. Question them about what it took to get where they are (education, experience, certain skills). If you are not near actual people who are into the field you would like to involve yourself in than you can always google the topic and read interviews by people in the field. You can go to seminars. You can just stop a mutherfucker  and say “Hey…how did you…?” and let them talk. Most people love to talk about themselves. By starting a dialogue you might meet someone capable of pointing you in the right direction or helping you to avoid wasted time and energy spent of useless preparation. Maybe he/she took a different route and you never considered what they did. Who knows? But you can’t arrive at a place if you have no idea where you are going. And No…no one is going to hire you so that you can ‘get experience’. For experience, might I suggest you look for an opportunity to volunteer. Working for free opens up networking opportunities which is experience you can put on your resume and the chance to ‘try out’ a situation before you make a full commitment to it.
A Closed Mouth Don’t Get Fed
zipped up mouth

Are you looking for a job? Are you trying to learn a new skill? Is there some type of information that you seek? If so…then tell someone. Who? Whoever is willing to listen. Ask anybody who has moved up in the world about this and they will tell you that they pulled every last known contact they could think of to get closer to the people/place/thing that they needed to get put on. Your no different if you’re a new college graduate or if you’re looking to get work in that new hair salon across town at the strip mall. Talk. Talk. Talk and talk some more. No one is going to be able to help you if they don’t know you need help. You may have been taught to ‘pull yourself up by your boot straps’ and to not ‘put your business out there’ but then how will people know to approach you or keep you in mind if they were never aware that you were available for work? Think about that because I know plenty of people who complain in private but don’t tell the people who can help them that they NEED help. Everything ain’t for everybody but if you’re looking to get put on in some type of way, I suggest you scream that to the highest mountain. Remember…the squeaky wheel gets the oil.

Stupid is As Stupid Doestupid is..s

Now this rule is one that I swear by, *Thanks Forest Gump* it amazes me sometimes when people do things that are just plain Stupid. Like not paying you’re rent on time, not paying the light/gas bill, just so you can have cable on. I mean do you understand the difference between a want & a necessity? My mother (I can hear her voice now.. love you mom) would always tell me pay your bills first, you can go without cable, but you can’t go without a roof over your head. People have to learn how to prioritize the things in life that are the most important. If I had to choose between paying my rent or my cell phone bill, I’m choosing paying my rent. Not being responsible and not making sound decisions is just plain Stupid!

Check Yourself… Before You WreckDuckXing  Yourself!!!!

This rule has many different interpretations; it can mean check your mental, spiritual and emotional health. Or it can mean before you lash out at other people, or feel the need to talk about other people Check Ya’Self! I have a problem with people who don’t take ownership in shit that they brought upon themselves. Before you get mad at the next man take a step back and ask yourself “what part did I play in this situation?” You have to be accountable for your actions. Don’t you know the definition of Insanity is: doing the same thing over & over thinking that each time you engage in this action you are going to get a different result.  I wise man by the name of HB (my late uncle) always told me there are three things you can do when you make a mistake 1: admit it 2: learn from it 3: don’t ever repeat it.Because if you keep making the same mistake, (especially if it’s a major mistake) you good wind up hurting yourself, your family, and your love ones. And that my friend is No Bueno! You have to be careful in life whom you chose to get slick with the mouth with. I see it happen all the time, someone starts mouthing of with another person, and they think that they can intimidate them or bully them with words or threats. And the next thing you know the person mouthing off finds himself or herself, writing a check with their mouth that their ass can’t cash. I’ve seen people get hurt really bad for coming out of their mouth’s sideways. Just go to your local funeral home and ask the mortician how many bodies wind up in their funeral home because of stupid, senseless, arguments that could have been avoided if you just Checked Ya’Self!

 If You Scared…Get a Dog

There are actually a few of you out there who I know for a FACT are scared to succeed. You are your own worse enemy and live your life the way you do in order to stay in the good graces of those around you. Maybe at one time you were the smartest kid in class but got picked on for being a ‘nerd’. Maybe you have a talent that no one knows about because you are scared of what ‘people‘ may say. Maybe you want to ‘stay in your lane’which just happened to be the one straight headed to no where fast. Maybe you don’t know anyone who has done what you are attempting to do. Your inner fears take over your judgement and you stop pushing forward. You know you can do better but your scared…and that’s okay. The only problem with fear is when you allow it to cause you to  sabotage  plans. No one can fuck you up better than you. Distractions, mistakes, missed opportunities..these are all subtle signs of a warrior who blinked. Even worse is that as you begin to listen to those voices in your head questioning your audacity you will more than likely have a group of ‘real’ voices telling you that maybe it wasn’t meant to be. Defeatist opinions are not hard to come by. There is nothing wrong with being scared. But being scared doesn’t mean that you stop. It just means that you press forward…scared. Change is not the biggest problem when people want to make strides…THE FEAR OF CHANGE  is.

I wilroc4life2l not lose

You might now win, right now. Or tomorrow. I can guarantee that you will lose if you quit. Must I even go into the sayings about ‘quitters’? Didn’t think so. Change is uncomfortjayz_africa_rocawear_ad6able and it’s not easy. But you were the one wanting to make changes. Most of your life will require you waking up every day and having a ‘can do’ attitude. No one is going to be your personal cheerleader each and every day so your gonna have to do it yourself. Get amped. Get pumped. Get some ‘swagger’…and take your azz out there and don’t come back until you’ve given it every last once of energy that you’ve got. Then do it all over again tomorrow. You may hear “no” every day but all you need is one “yes” to turn it all around. So let’s go get that “Yes!”, shall we? If you need motivation just remember this

“Attitudes are contagious, is yours worth catching” if you set yourself on fire with enthusiasm , then the world will watch you burn!

I don’t sleep because sleep is the cousin of death
people sleeping

Jigga doesn’t sleep. Diddy “can’t stop, won’t stop” and Einstein determined that we waste “1/3 of our lives” sleeping. Now I don’t mean for you to go hard each and every waking moment of your life. Keeping up such a schedule can cause burn out and exhaustion and it won’t help you think clearly when the times comes for you to be on your A-game. However, there are some other aspects of your life that you can fall back from. That may mean no more late night jump-offs with 5 different people. It may mean turning off the television and focusing on only projects that will increase your value, give you an edge or teach you a new skill. Of course you should take time to relax, spend time with family and friends, eat a healthy meal and get adequate rest. And I hear you grumbling about how you are tired after pulling a work day for someone else. I know your time, yeah…me too. But if unless you got a rich uncle to support you while you make your life changes your gonna have to work your job and work yourself at the same time. Now is the time to learn to pace yourself, set yourself a schedule and plot your goals.Which leads me to…
If you faLarry fishburn in higher Learningil to plan, then you plan to fail

(In Larry Fishburn voice in Higher Learning ) Mr. Williams you must have a plan! Success is no accident. Moving forward without doing your homework is just as bad as sitting down for an examination that you didn’t study for. Who da fuck knows what might happen next? The difference is..where you only have to answer a few questions on a piece of paper, all you risk is a bad grade. But take those kinds of risks with your livelihood and you may result in wasted time, money and effort. We have no time to bullshit! This is not a game. Mind you, bullshit is entirely different from wrong turns taken on the path to ‘a place’. So you did your homework, researched and networked. You have identified your goal and have been making honest strides toward it when out of nowhere, something changes! What do you do? Good question. If you were smart you would refer to your Plan B. You have a Plan B that followed Plan A in the event that something went wrong and it did. By preparing for changes and shifting variables you are more prepared for damage control. By planning the risks and the rewards, it becomes easier to recoup and get back on your feet than if you were just moving along blindly ‘hoping’ things go in your favor.

The key to my success is  Opportunity+Preparation=Success

I hope these rules that I have laid down, will serve as a Blueprint so to speak.

To help you get your game on track like Biggie said. I just wanted to share these simple rules that will keep you on the fast track to success!

That’s all for now America, I have to go and follow my own advise.

United We Stand… Divided We Fall!!!

“It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back”, that was a hot album title of Public Enemies’ second album back in 1988. This was the theme that began the movement of social empowerment and black nationalism among the culture of Hip Hop. A lot has changed since then, like the increased number of Blacks and Latinos attending college and moving into white collar jobs and up the social ladder. One big thing that has changed since then is the fact that we have a BLACK MAN as president. That sure was a fine day! Many people didn’t think they would live to see it. Elders and young people of color in every corner of the world rejoiced, danced in the streets and looked on in pride and wonderment, myself  included. I mean who would of thought that the son of a Kenyan scholarship student and a girl from Wichita, Kansas would marry and then give birth to the man that would change the course of history in the U.S.?

Having a Black man run for president caused the nation to take a close look at themselves. People of all races reached out to each other in the spirit of brotherhood. The United part of the United States finally, after all these years, arrived. Blacks are now recognized as equal. “Blacks are no longer seen as less than“, is what everyone said. The old spirit of white supremacy had finally been laid to rest. Or had it?This health care debate is bringing out out allot of ugly in Republican media. I’ve seen the president’s 11 year old daughter, Maliyah, was called a “a tMalia-Obama-in-CND-T-shir-003ypical street whore”.

The Vancouver Sun ran an article about The Conservative Republic who later removed the article after mounting emails and negative media attention from all over the web. The conversation about health care (which I am for) has been pushed in the shadows, right were the big people with money who need for us to keep giving them more money want it to be. It’s working, because I can’t focus on the health care issue when I see stuff like this, a picture of O’Bama as a tribesman

This picture was sent out in an email by a Florida neurosurgeon who disagrees with the health reform. Neurosurgeon, you think he has something to lose if he has to work for a standard rate? All those deep pocketed neural nerve damaged patients won’t be getting over on him! Oh, yeah, he’s also against using tax money to assist homeless people.

In June, former State Senate candidate Rusty DePass, made a comment on Facebook about Michelle O’Bama in which he compared her ancestors to gorillas. The comments were removed after a backlash from other Republicans who screamed on old boy about his comment. But you didn’t hear about that one, did you?

There is also this really great group of folks over at P.U.M.A. (People United Means Action) who have created a political campaign short film called “The Lost Michelle O’Bama Tapes”.  In this film, which you can see on Youtube, members of the P.U.M.A. This movie was produced by Patricia E. Lee, Esq and a Hilary Clinton super hero named Ken Tietjen, who not only wrote the film but also appeared in BLACKFACEas a character in the film.BLACKFACE, that’s just so 1960’s *checks calendar*. It is 2009 and most people find this behavior to be racist and disturbing and of course there are some people that think its funny to depict Blacks like this. I bet some of you think that the lack of media attention is a good thing. Why give steam to these stories that are hurtful and stir up rage and anger in Whites, Blacks, Asians, Latinos and Other? I’ll tell you why we should be talking about this. If you follow me on Twitter ( or any of my crew (click the Following link and follow who I follow) you’ll get plenty of Tweets and links that lead to hot political news topics. When you got some time, check em out, the best part of the sites aren’t the actual topics, the interesting parts are the comments from the readers. Read them.

You’ll find out that there is a quiet simmering conflict going on. There are members of the Republican Party that are still angry that a Black man is president and they are getting antsy.O’Bama is now on tour pushing his health care reform initiative during town hall meetings similar to what he did during his campaign. There is a slight difference this time though, people are showing up to the town hall meetings with high powered automatic weapons. Oh, yeah. It’s like that. Of course everyone with any sense knows that these are elementary intimidation tactics. What Black person doesn’t know what it means when a bully shows up with the heater on full display? Yeah, just like that time you got stuck up at the PJ’s.  The subliminal message is clear, “It could happen to you, boy”. But what, exactly, is about to happen you ask? Power struggles and friction cause people to lose moral sensibilities. I see a storm on the horizon and I am not the only one. Check out Wayne Besen ( over at the HuffingtonPost, he wrote an interesting article about what can happen when power and class struggles go wrong.

gun1There is a small buzz on the streets among the new Black scholars debating if there is still a need to promote Black Nationalism now that we do have a Black president? I found a great article here, written by the Thought Merchant called “Is Black Nationalism Relevant in the Age of Obama?” Do we still need groups like the NAACP that fight for the protection and advancement of people of color? I think we do, but I will say that I am not sure their latest court plight is worthy of the time and money in light of the other things people of color have going on right now. Hopefully that story is just another Internet rumor spun as real news. The culture war is coming, groups like the NAACP need to focus their focus on what’s really good……STAT. Strange that I don’t find more people that look like me talking about this. I mean, all people of color were proud to have O’Bama breakthrough that racial ceiling. People who are not-of-color had their faith in the words “equality” and “character” reinforced by the election of O’Bama. We came together to get the man elected but we get quiet once he steps into the arena to do battle. What’s that about? The conversations, the debates, the issues, the discussion needs to continue. Blacks should be less concerned with Chris and RiRi as they are about plans to attempt to get this country back on it’s feet. The economy is sitting on the side of the road, only capable of a sputter with no engine power. Right now, O’Bama is the AAA we are all depending on. Can we afford to lose him to a fanatic dissenter (one who disagree’s  for you slow folks)? They are still lynching black folks in this country. Your silence is your consent to intimidate you. Your silence is the encouragement these gun toting, slur slinging fanatics need to feed their belief that this is THEIR COUNTRYand you and O’Bama are trying to ‘take it away’ from them. Ever see a toddler have a raging tantrum? Yeah, just like that.

Well, what can we do about it, Mr. Clayton?

Glad you asked. Your doing something by reading this article right now. Your are doing something by reading the links included in this post. Talk to your friends, talk to your co-workers, stay informed. The same effort it took to get O’Bama elected is the same effort and pro activeness needed to make informed decisions. A strong country is not a given. The president needs our help. We can’t afford to allow our country’s decisions to be based on opposing views that have everything to do with the president’s race and nothing to do with details and facts. If you are read a post and see comments that are aimed toward a personal opinion of the president’s race, then comment back. Don’t turn your head and hope no one else pays the ignorant words any mind. If you come across a new article that details real talk (like this one for example, I hope) pass it on to your inner circle. Encourage anyone and everyone with a voice to use it to battle this type of immature and counter productive behavior. Showing up at the town hall meeting with your own gun in hopes of ‘fighting fire with fire’ might be best left in the hands of trained security (FOI and Farrakahn, where are you?). I wonder where all those campaign blacks went? Where are the voices of Black money at? Ask Russell Simmons ( he feels about the health care debates? How does Diddy( feel about folks coming to town hall meeting with guns? Ask the Revered Al Sharpton (, Roland Martin (, Michelle Malkin (, Hill Harper (, Steve Harvey (, Soledad O’Brien (….well, you get the idea.

Now if you’ll excuse me. I have an appointment at the gun range, one never knows when you might have to disable a predator, ya know?

Until next time America,

Young M. Clayton
